Jesus is in Control

In meditation today, I was led back to a season in my life when the peace robber tried to take over. Sometimes when the enemy can’t get to you, he uses people closest to you to distract and you and rob you of peace. Nevertheless, have confidence that “Jesus is in control.” Check out an excerpt from my book “Anchored in the Lord.”

“Jesus Is In Control”

“Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace, be still…” Mark 4:39 (KJV)

In spite of what you’re going through, Jesus is in control. Our Savior is not just in control of the world as we see it, but He has dominion over every fiber in the universe. In 2011, my daughter was in her second year of middle school. Being a social butterfly, she was rapidly earning the title Class Clown. Her school was literally calling me every other day. “Ms. Brooks, will you talk to your daughter? She needs to settle down.” Will I talk to her? Honestly most of the time, I did not talk to her; I yelled at her. I could not comprehend why my daughter elected to socialize at school verses focusing on learning or atleast pretending that I actively train her up in the way that she should go.

Telephone calls from the school were my peace robber. Just one unfavorable report disturbed my peace for days. Real talk: When the school’s name appeared on Caller ID, I opted not to take the call sometimes.

Telephone calls followed by parent teacher conferences continued. Finally after a few class clown sessions, my daughter ended up with a ‘Last Chance’ Contract. I was floored; however the contract was not my main frustration. The primary thief of my peace, was that my teenager was not accountable. I am an advocate for accountability. Lecture after lecture, I tried to fuss accountability into her. It did not penetrate. Operating in the flesh stifled progress.

One morning before frustration kicked in, the Holy Spirit quickened my spirit an lead me back to Ephesians 6:12 - “We do not wrestle with flesh and blood, but principalities, powers and spiritual wickedness in high places…” I decided from that moment forward that I will no longer allow anyone including my own child steal my peace. After all, Jesus promised, “My Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled…“(John 14:27).

Daily, I began to put on the Whole Armor of God, and take God’s stance. “Spiritual battles cannot be fought in the flesh.” I started speaking life into my teen confessing by faith daily…

·      The seed of my womb is blessed. Luke 1:42

·      You honor your mother, your father and you honor authority. Exodus 20:12

·      You have the mind of Christ, and are not conformed to this world, but you are transformed by the renewing of your mind.  Romans 12:2

·      I am training you up in the way that you should go. As you get older, you shall not depart from it. Proverbs 22:6

By the end of the school year, the Savior said, “Peace Be Still,” and calmed the environment. Thank you Jehovah Shalom!
